In this episode, former Genealogy Roadshow host and author of The Family Tree Toolkit, has a conversation with Dr. Shelley Viola Murphy, Descendant Project Researcher at the University of Virginia, to discuss the role and responsibilities that higher education and academia plays in acknowledging being founded on slave ownership, and institutions that were built with slave labor.
Dr. Murphy shares her work with the University of Virginia, and she and Kenyatta discuss what it's like to work with their own enslaved ancestors and how they have navigated finding records in the past.
Dr. Murphy can be found on Twitter with the handle @familytreegirl and her website is familytreegirl.com.
The music for this episode, as always, is "Good Vibe," by Ketsa.
